The best NBN plans this month: From Optus and Telstra to the best plans for your Netflix habit

There are more than 150 telcos selling NBN plans, so it’s not always easy to keep track of who has the best offers and prices. Whether you’re thinking of connecting to the NBN, or simply want to change your existing plan, you’re in the right place to find this month’s best deals.

There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all broadband plan, so we’ve highlighted our March picks for the best low-cost, unlimited data, Netflix streaming, and ultra-fast NBN offers.

And if you’d prefer to stick with the big-name telcos you know and trust, you’ll find our fave plans from Optus and Telstra.

Best unlimited data NBN plans

Aside from the amaysim plan mentioned above, both Barefoot Telecom and Mate Communicate are offering unlimited data at Basic Evening Speeds (12Mbps) for $49 per month for your first six months (normally $59). Both of these plans are contract-free, and feature no activation or setup fees.

If you’re looking at faster speeds, you can upgrade to Standard Plus Evening Speeds (up to 50Mbps) for $59 per month with either telco. Again, this pricing only applies to your first six months, after which you’ll pay $69.

Best NBN 100/ Premium Speed plans

Looking for unlimited data at lightning-fast speeds? Our March pick is MyRepublic’s $84.99 Unlimited NBN 100 plan, which features no lock-contracts and unlimited local and national calls. Although this is a month-to-month plan, you’ll need to pay $120 at set-up for a configured WiFi modem, but you will get speeds of up to 100Mbps.

If you’d prefer to avoid this fee  - or you already have your own compatible modem - both Barefoot Telecom and Mate Communicate are offering six months of NBN 100 speeds (and unlimited data) for $89 per month (normally $99). As outlined above, these are both no-contract plans.

Best Netflix NBN deal

One of our favourite deals this month is from Teleron  - 100GB of data at Basic Evening Speeds (12Mbps) for $42.50 per month. While this isn’t the cheapest Basic Speed option, it does come with unlimited, unmetered Netflix streaming for new customers: watch all you want, and it won’t impact your 100GB of monthly data.

Contract-free and 24-month plans are available for the same $42.50 monthly price, but month-to-month plans come with a $50 setup fee. Don’t forget that you’ll need a Netflix subscription in order to stream movies and TV data-free.

Best wallet-friendly NBN plans

If you’re sticking to a budget, or just don’t have huge data and speed needs, there are plenty of lower-cost NBN options. Our pick for this month is amaysim’s Basic Speed – Unlimited Data plan, which features unrestricted data and Basic Evening Speeds of up to 12Mbps.

Normally $60 per month, customers can receive their first six months at a special discounted price of $40, provided you sign up before March 15. And as it’s a no-contract plan, you’re free to cancel or change service after your six-month discount ends.

Not interested in unlimited data? Exetel’s 100GB, NBN12 plan is priced at $39.99 per month, and features speeds of up to 12Mbps. Again, this is a no-contract option, although there is a $99.99 setup fee.

Best Telstra NBN plans

If you’re a Telstra loyalist, you can sign up for NBN from $99 per month, on a 24-month plan. You’ll get unlimited data at NBN 50 speeds (up to 50Mbps), plus a Telstra TV set-top box with an included 24-month Foxtel Now subscription.

Best Optus NBN plans

Prefer to stick with Optus? We love the 60 Plan, which, for $60 per month, gives you unlimited data at Basic Evening Speeds of up to 12Mbps, both on a 24-month contract and month-to-month.

If you want something faster, you can upgrade to Standard Plus Evening Speeds (50Mbps) for $75 each month on either plan. But keep in mind that all contract-free plans will incur a $200 setup fee and modem charge.

We have cable internet which is very fast via telstra. When we ask telstra what plan we can get that wouldl be as fast on nbn they are unable to give a answer. Do you know which is the fastest option. We are nbn ready be wont be getting it until all problems are ironed out and telstra can provide acceptable service

I am on a similar plan - I do not need a lot of data but I still need to include my local and national calls and mobile. It seems that there are no answers - everyone seems to sell DATA. I DO NOT WISH TO CHANGE but looks like we HAVE TO. What has happened to our democracy????
