The Best NBN Plans from Telstra, Optus and More

The thing is, many of us have been with the same internet service provider for a long time. As many as 40-percent of Aussie homes are connected to Telstra, while Optus and the TPG group have about 20-percent market share each. And many of us are quite happy with our provider, thank you very much.

But that that doesn't mean that you shouldn't shop around for a better deal, even if it is with the names you know.

So let's take a look at the best plans from the big internet providers. If you see a deal better than the one you're currently on, you make sure you have them switch you over.

Telstra

Thanks to big pressure from the small telcos, Telstra NBN internet prices are now quite reasonable, if you can do without the bells and whistles, like Foxtel. You may find that you can get away with paying as little as $69 per month, depending on how often you use the internet.

Telstra plans start with NBN Standard speed which should be plenty for households that have been happy enough with the speed of their ADSL connection. If you have a larger household (2-4 people) of heavy internet users, starting at $79 you can step up to Standard Plus speed.

Optus

Optus NBN plans are fantastically simple to compare. There are basically three options to consider, starting from $75 per month. The basic plan comes with Standard Plus NBN speed, unlimited internet data and a home phone service that you pay for as you use it. If you step up to the next price bracket, you get a Fetch TV set-top box with a premium channel pack and Optus Sport bundled in. The final price bump takes your internet speed up to the maximum 100Mbps.

TPG

TPG has long been known for its great value internet plans, but with the arrival of the NBN the telco has added something new into the mix: top notch speed and reliability.

TPG promises evening speeds to rival that of Optus and Telstra, but for quite a bit less with plans starting at $49.99 per month. Fast evening speeds mean less congestion on the network during the times when you love using the internet most. TPG offers the NBN on three speed tiers: Basic, Standard Plus and Premium, which means whether you’re a small household of light users or a large household of heavy users, you’ll be able to find a plan to suit.

iiNet

Renowned for its excellent customer service, iiNet is a favourite for internet in homes across Australia. Its NBN plans can be cheap and cheerful, but can also include Fetch TV entertainment options.

As you can see, even if you want to stay with your current provider, there are plenty of great deals to sift through. And this is just the tip if the iceberg. If you'd like to dig a little deeper, try running your own address search on our broadband plans comparison tool.

Why don't the prices say weather the speed ie 25 or 50 or 100 speed. And why do you have to pay for 13 and 1300 calls ? Ken not happy.

Nobody ever mentions Australia Online (Lizzy)?? I pay $49.29/month for 50GB, hardly ever get to the limit despite being on my PC daily, & viewing lots on YouTube, & been with them trouble free for 10+ years. Have a look.

connected to optus on 10/7/18. numerous outages daily. many phone calls & so far 2 visits from nbn techs have not solved problem. techs come to home, fiddle around a bit & tell us problem fixed. before they get to the end of our street modem connection lost. I think they don't care if the problem persists as they're kept in a job & the taxpayer foots the bill. Ron nsw

Hi, I was with Telstra years ago and had a bigpond address, I still use it. I was also concerned that I would have to get a new email address so set one up but then found I can still log in to my webmail on the Telstra media site.Hope this helps.
