Living with No Regrets, What's on Your Bucket List

A Stanford University (US) research found that 91% of participants of 3,056 surveyed had made a bucket list.

“When you just Google the term ‘bucket list,’ it’s huge how much interest there is in this,” VJ Periyakoil, MD, clinical associate professor of medicine said. “It provides a very nice framework for thinking about your life goals, health and your mortality.”

Bucket lists are no longer for those who see the end of days coming, but for those who still have the desire to live the rest of their life without regrets. Being over fifty doesn’t give you an excuse to stop living. More than anything, it’s an excuse to live a little louder than before.

At the FiftyUp Club, we scoured the internet for ideas for a “bucket list” and here are 10 of our favourites we came across while in our search:

-build an aquarium in your house that you can swim in like retired CEO Eli Fruchter

-go to and participate in one or more the world’s most well-known festivals like Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest, Running of the Bulls and the like

-see the Southern Lights, better yet, hope on a plane and head towards the North Pole to see the Northern Lights

-go on an African safari or take a rail trip around Europe

-try an alternative therapy like reiki, reflexology or acupuncture

-travel Australia from coast to coast in a campervan (grand children optional)

-treat yourself and fly first class

-conquer a fear of yours (climb the Sydney Harbour bridge if you’re scared of heights, volunteer at a reptile sanctuary if you’re afraid of snakes or spiders)

-go skinny dipping

-write a book of your favourite memories to hand down to future generations

Hmmm....have been there and done that. 4mths in Europe 1981, sang on stage and radio, sold paintings, learned coastal navigation and at 70 hubby and I took on a lovely 60 acre farm 7 years ago. I want to do lots of stuff with our 3 Grandchildren while I can still more or less stand up...would like a boat though with fish the price they are!

Travel around Australia is a great adventure if you plan the finances well. I did it when I was 32 for 2 years. I can't wait to do it again with my new partner and now in my 50's. Great way to catch up with family and friends and no rush. It's the first on my bucket list "again".

A great idea and not one many Aussies would do.

Irresponsible of you to include "running with the bulls" a day of cruelty to animals. Why not include the "festival of sacrifice" while you're at it!

Yes I completed them all except the OMG photo. Was a zoo keeper for the day on my birthday. It was great fun. Still have not got that OMG photo yet and I'm past next birthday. Cheers Anne

When I turned 65 I was still working but wanted to make a statement on my 65th. So I made a mini bucket list of six things. 1)Go on a radio station,2)start a blog,3) publish a photo (keen a mature photographer) 4) have fabulous dinner with my family 5) on the day I was a zoo keeper for the day. 6) before my next birthday take an OMG photo (no photo shopping) and there you have it my mini bucket list cheers Anne
